In 2015 we planned to end our trek across (some of the) national parks of the west by meeting up with family north of Estes National Park in Colorado.
Traveling up from Mesa Verde to the south and west, we came up to the southern corner of Colorado and took the Durango-Silverton train.
I recommend highly! I also recommend buying protective eyewear against ash and soot landing in your eyes, especially if you’re in an open-air car as we were.
