VAL: Jordanian Kunafa

It’s been a while since one of my regionally -inspired recipes included a dessert.

But as I reached Jordan, I thought I’d try this recipe for Kunafa.

Once again, I had to look to online retailers for ingredients because I do not have a “local middle eastern market.” I didn’t bother trying to buy rosewater or orange blossom water. A lesser amount of vanilla extract was fine as a substitution.

I was a little concerned that it would be cheesecake-y in light of the filling. I am not a fan of cheesecake.

But actually, the verdict was positive. Crunchy and cakey and sweet and fruity, but none of those overwhelming. A very nice balance!

It looks hairy but it tastes quite nice.
