Good times, with good friends whose company I have missed.
Good food, and too much of it. (I ended up bringing both desserts. They were the least “pretty” in the bunch, but very tasty nonetheless.)
Little people with too much sugar in their systems, excited to use their noisemakers ahead of the big moment, faring better than the adults in the race to the finish line.

The year already blessed to begin in their company.
Fireworks overhead in the chill of the freshly-January air as I drive through almost-empty roads… more still popping in the cold darkness long after I arrive home.
